Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter 1 stick, room temp
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • Zest from 1 an orange split
  • 1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips I like to use bittersweet but semi sweet also works

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a standing mixer or a large mixing bowl, combine the room temperature butter and both sugars. Cream them together well, then add in the eggs vanilla and orange extracts and zest from ½ the orange. Mix everything until well incorporated.
  • Add in the flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Mix halfway, then add in the chocolate chips. Mix well from the bottom one last time, then cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Once the oven is preheated, remove the dough from the fridge and use a cookie scoop to place balls of dough on the baking sheet. For a 1 Tablespoon size cookie, bake for 10 minutes. For a 2 Tablespoon cookie, bake for 13-14 minutes.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh orange zest, let rest for 5 minutes and enjoy!

Notes

Note: This dough will yield 35-40 1-Tablespoon size cookies or 20 - 22 2-Tablespoon cookies
