Salted Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Salted brown butter chocolate chip cookies

When I think of my perfect chocolate chip cookie, I think chewy dough with crispy edges, dark chocolate, just slightly puffy, slightly underbaked and a hint of a toffee flavor from brown sugar and brown butter. If your dream chocolate chip cookie is anything like mine, then these cookies are the absolute PERFECT bite. I can’t wait for you to make them and fall in love with them like I have. I cannot have an entire batch of these in my house or they will be gone in a day and a half. Squish some vanilla ice cream in between, dunk them in some milk, or enjoy them on their own. Ingredients:
1 ½ sticks unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg + 1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt + more for the top
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Start by browning the butter. Add the butter to a small saucepan on medium high heat. Let it melt then start to boil. Continue cooking whisking frequently until the butter becomes a dark amber color. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Once the brown butter has cooled, add it to a mixing bowl or stand mixer and combine with the brown sugar until incorporated. Then add the egg and egg yolk along with the vanilla extract. Mix well to combine. Mix together the flour, ½ teaspoon of salt and baking soda, then add all the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Lastly, mix in the chocolate chips by hand. Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours or even overnight.

Preheat the oven to 350. Use a small cookie scoop to scoop out the cookies and place them on a baking tray a couple inches apart. Bake 11-13 minutes or until a golden trim forms around the edges, but the center is still quite soft. Enjoy these with some milk or vanilla ice cream or on their own. It will be hard to stop! Sahtein & Enjoy!

  1. I made these cookies this past weekend and let me just say…O…M…G… they are sooooo good! It was my first attempt at browning butter and I might have gotten it a little darker that it should be but it still worked out amazingly. The batter itself smelled so good I wanted to eat it all before chilling it. They came out crisp but soft in the center and the tiny sprinkle of salt on top at the end just made them even more perfect. Great recipe for anyone beginner or expert just be prepared to want to eat them all and not share! Will definitely be making these again!

This cookie has a soft chewy center and the sea salt just takes these cookies to a whole another level. Jackie did a great job with this recipe. It’s definitely a must try and perfect for holiday baking or bake sales!!
