Sahlab – Warm Middle Eastern Dessert Drink
Last Updated on July 2, 2022 by Team HH
Ingredients:
3 cups milk of choice (We traditionally use regular whole milk, but a non-dairy milk will work just fine here)
3 tablespoons corn starch (or more if you’d like the drink thicker – I prefer it between somewhere between a soup and pudding consistency)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Optional Toppings:
Cinnamon
Pistachios
Walnuts
Pomegranate
Coconut
Directons:
Add the milk and cornstarch to a small pot and whisk together until the corn starch has dissolved. It is important to do this step while the milk is still cold to prevent the cornstarch from clumping! Turn the heat to medium and continue whisking. If you forgot to add the corn starch while the milk was still cold, just make a slurry with some more cold milk and corn starch and add it to the warm milk. Keep stirring and it will give you the same consistency.
Add in the sugar and keep stirring from the bottom to prevent it from burning.
Once desired thickness is achieved, remove from heat and pour into serving cups and add desired toppings. Enjoy!
